Matt M. Eagle Scout Project
Matt's project was helping to protect and beautify the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. Because of a limited budget, the cemetery relies on volunteers to help maintain the grounds. Matt's project was to obtain and then spread mulch on the over 250 trees throughout the cemetery. The mulch helps establish a protective perimeter around the trees, keeping lawnmowers away from the tree and it's roots. Several trees have died after being hit my mowers, so Matt's project will help stop future incidents. The trees not only provide beauty and serenity in this hallowed place, they also buffer noises from the surrounding area, including Interstate 80. Flower beds in front of the main building also received a layer of fresh mulch after some much needed weeding.
Matt's 26 volunteers donated over 117 combined hours.
